Members of the Imrali Delegation of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), Pervin Buldan, Özgür Faik Erol, and Mithat Sancar, met with the ruling AKP (Justice and Development Party) in Parliament as part of their political party talks within the framework of the Peace and Democratic Society Process. The DEM Party Imrali Delegation and the AKP delegation made a statement following their meeting.
The first to speak was AKP Group Chairman Abdullah Güler, who said: “As of this week, the political parties in the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission, which began its work with meetings on August 5, have submitted their reports on the work done so far. We also submitted ours to the Parliamentary Speaker’s Office yesterday. Within this scope, we conducted detailed evaluations and exchanged views. We will provide more detailed explanations in the coming period.”
Speaking afterward, Pervin Buldan said, “It was a very productive meeting. We discussed the stage reached in the process that has been ongoing for over a year and presented our views. The members of the delegation expressed their views on this matter very sincerely. We want to strongly emphasize the following: Peace cannot be achieved without law. We have entered a period that requires a legal basis. We have entered a new phase, and our consultations will continue in this phase and the next. I can say that we agreed to meet regularly to bring this issue to a conclusion.”
Mithat Sancar also spoke and said: “The period ahead of us is truly one that must be handled with care and diligence. The importance of establishing a legal framework together is very clear. Here, we have once again emphasized the importance of political consensus and social harmony. Let us state before you, too, that legal regulations and carrying out the process with political consensus and the broadest possible social consensus is vitally important. We will continue our meetings with political parties. After that, we will have meetings with the Minister of Justice and the Speaker of Parliament. We are also planning to meet with the President.”
