Diyarbakır (Amed) Metropolitan Municipality will commemorate Ayşe Şan, one of the most important figures of Kurdish music, on the 29th anniversary of her death with a two-day program consisting of theatre, a panel, and a concert. The Department of Culture, Arts, and Social Affairs will organize the commemoration program today and tomorrow, 18 December. Over the two days, Ayşe Şan’s life, artistic work, and the legacy she left to Kurdish music will be discussed under various thematic headings.
Concert featuring 20 artists
The commemoration program will begin on the evening of 17 December at 6:30 p.m. with a theatre performance at the Ali Emiri Cultural Center. The play, prepared by Berfin Zenderlioğlu and focusing on the life of Ayşe Şan, will meet the audience.
On the second day of the program, 18 December, a commemoration will be held at 1:00 p.m. at Ayşe Şan’s grave in Yeniköy Cemetery. Later the same day, at 6:00 p.m., a panel titled “Ayşe Şan’s Musical Life” will take place at the Ali Emiri Cultural Center. Moderated by Saliha Ayata, the panel will feature presentations by Berfin Zenderlioğlu, titled “Ayşe Şan as a Musician and Artist Woman,” and by Zeynep Yaş, Head of the Department of Culture, Arts, and Social Affairs, titled “Ayşe Şan’s Life and Her Place in Kurdish Music.”
Following the panel, at 7:30 p.m., a special concert composed of Ayşe Şan’s works will be held. With 25 artists taking the stage, Ayşe Şan’s voice and music will once again resonate in Diyarbakır.
