Joint report to be submitted to Parliament after the New Year

The work of the commission established in Parliament within the scope of the Peace and Democratic Society Process continues. Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş met with the coordinators of the political parties represented in the commission on Wednesday. The meeting, which lasted nearly one hour, was attended by DEM Party Group Deputy Chair Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit, MHP Deputy Chair Feti Yıldız, AKP Group Chair Abdulhamit Gül, CHP Group Deputy Chair Murat Emir, and Yeni Yol (New Path) Group Chair Bülent Kaya.

During the meeting, the reports prepared by the political parties and the general report being worked on by the commission were discussed. The parties that have not yet submitted their reports were asked to submit them to the commission by Friday.

The joint report will be submitted to Parliament after the New Year

Responding to journalists’ questions after the meeting, MHP member Feti Yıldız stated that methods for preparing a joint report had been discussed, saying, “We will meet again on Monday. We will prepare the joint report in the coming weeks. After the New Year, we will submit the report to Parliament as a framework document, not as a bill.”

Yıldız stated that one representative from each party with a group would be assigned to the report and noted that work with the current coordinators would continue. When asked about the commission’s working period, he replied, “If it is not completed by December 31, the period may be extended.”

Drafting team being formed

During the meeting, it was also decided to form a “drafting team” to prepare the commission report. It was stated that the parties would each appoint a member to this team, which is planned to review the draft report and finalize it by Monday. The aim is for the report to be prepared with the joint signatures of all parties.

Reports say that the DEM Party will assign Istanbul MP Cengiz Çiçek to its drafting team. It is rumored that the CHP may submit a more comprehensive report on Friday, in addition to the text it has previously submitted. On the other hand, the AKP is expected to submit its approximately 70-page report to the commission on Friday, but there may be a delay due to the approval process.

The commission’s term may be extended by one month

While the report is expected to be completed before the beginning of the year, it is stated that the commission’s term, which expires on December 31, may be extended by one month if the process is prolonged. If the report is accepted by the commission, political parties are expected to submit a petition to the General Assembly of the Parliament to open a general debate.

Meanwhile, Kurtulmuş and the party coordinators will reportedly reconvene at 4:00 PM on Monday should there be no other developments.
