PYD: Decentralization means guaranteeing the rights of all components

The Democratic Union Party (PYD) Public Relations Office held a meeting in Amûdê to assess political developments.

The meeting, held at the Cizîr Canton Autonomous Administration Legislative Council building in Amûdê, was attended by representatives of civil society organizations, security forces, military councils, and tribes, as well as IDPs from Afrin-Shehba Canton.

Rakam Eşwanî, director of the Center for Strategic Studies, talked about the wars in the region and the plans implemented to alter the demographic structure. Eşwanî remarked that security, peace, and stability have still not been achieved in Syria one year after the fall of the Baath regime. He stated that the Syrian issue does not only concern Syria itself, as the changes in Turkey and Iran also affect the country.

Eşwanî emphasized that Turkey’s interference in Syria’s internal affairs hinders the establishment of stability and will have a negative impact on security in the country.

Recalling Abdullah Öcalan’s February 27 Call for Peace and a Democratic Society for peace in the Middle East, Rakam Eşwanî noted that the PKK responded positively to the call, while the Turkish state has yet to take steps.

Eşwanî said, “The internationally recognized Autonomous Administration and the SDF (Syrian Democratic Forces) could be suitable models for building a democratic Syria that guarantees the rights of all its components and supports the principles of coexistence and social justice. A decentralized system is not suitable for building a democratic Syria.”

PYD Public Relations Office Co-Chair Sema Begdaş referred to the agreement signed between the SDF and the Transitional Government on March 10, which, she said, was a historic turning point but has not yet yielded concrete results due to the interventions of neighboring states. She stated that the Autonomous Administration and the SDF are working to achieve results that serve stability and the public interest.

Sema Begdaş pointed out that the SDF is a fundamental force capable of protecting the region’s security. She said that the Transitional Government cannot protect the rights of all components with a centralized system that ignores women, adding that the Autonomous Administration is a unique model for building a democratic Syria.
