Narges Mohammadi detained once again

Iranian activist and journalist, Narges Mohammadi, who has spent much of the past twenty years in prison in her country for “thought crimes,” has once again been taken into custody.

According to a statement from her support committee, Mohammadi was detained again on Friday, 12 December.

Previously imprisoned multiple times on charges of “propaganda,” Mohammadi had recently expressed concerns about the possibility of being physically assaulted.

The 51-year-old journalist and activist was awarded the Nobel Prize by the Nobel Committee for “her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her tireless efforts for human rights and freedom.” Despite this, she continued to be targeted by state repression.

Mohammadi had been held in Tehran’s Evin Prison until she was temporarily released at the beginning of December.
