The verdict hearing in the case against Artist Pınar Aydınlar, who was tried on charges of “membership in an illegal organization” and “making propaganda for an illegal organization” within the scope of the Peoples’ Democratic Congress (HDK) investigation, was held.
At the hearing held at the 13th High Criminal Court of the Istanbul Courthouse, Pınar Aydınlar and her lawyer were present. Representatives of many political parties, civil society organizations and associations also watched the hearing.
During the hearing, the prosecutor repeated the opinion previously given, requesting punishment for both charges.
In her defense, Pınar Aydınlar said: “Within the scope of the HDK operation, I was thrown to the ground in the house where I stayed with my children by armed law enforcement officers, and a gun was held to my head. My daughter was forced to undress in front of cameras. This is the process I went through. Being an HDK member is not a crime; it is a legal entity. I am not an HDK member; but even if I were, I would not deny it.
I am a socialist artist. As a socialist artist, I stand by the oppressed, the workers, and those who have suffered injustice. Also, as an artist who gives concerts in Europe, I sign in every month and go abroad the next day. If I had intended to flee, I would not have returned from abroad.”
Pınar Aydınlar requested the lifting of the judicial control measures imposed on her and asked for her acquittal.
The court sentenced Pınar Aydınlar to 6 years and 3 months in prison for the charge of “being a member of an illegal organization.”
