The KDP chairman, Massoud Barzani, came to Cizre (Cizîr) to attend the 4th International Melayê Cizîrî Symposium organized by Şırnak University. Barzani was welcomed at the Habur Border Gate by Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) spokesperson Ayşegül Doğan, Şırnak MPs Newroz Uysal Aslan and Mehmet Zeki Irmez, among others.
Barzani went to the hotel where the symposium was being held. As Barzani entered the hotel, a brief scuffle occurred between those who had come to welcome him and security forces.
Speaking at the symposium, Barzani emphasized the importance of Cizre, saying: “Melayê Cizîrî has always been very significant for us. We read about his life and researched it. He devoted his 70-year life to the path of science. He was at a very high level. His importance to us is special.” Giving information about Melayê Cizîrî’s works, Barzani quoted from them and said that no one else could have written such words.
Expressing his happiness with the Peace and Democratic Society Process, Barzani said: “I thank Erdoğan and the people of Turkey. They opened the door to peace. I thank Mr. Öcalan; he has taken important steps. We are ready to support this process.”
After the speech, the program continued with the recitation of qasidas. Following the performance, Barzani visited Medreseya Sor and the Mem û Zîn tomb.
The symposium, consisting of 17 sessions, will conclude in the evening.
