Autonomous Administration hands over a child and woman from ISIS families to Spain

During an official visit by a Spanish delegation to the region, the Democratic Administration of North and East Syria (DAANES) handed over a woman and a child belonging to the self-proclaimed Islamic State (ISIS).

The delegation, led by the Spanish ambassador to Damascus, Gonzalo de Salazar, accompanied by his team, visited the region of northern and eastern Syria. Galstan Ali, deputy co-foreign affairs representative of DAANES, Khalid Ibrahim, member of the DAANES Department of Foreign Relations, and Lana Hussein, representative of the Women’s Defense Units (YPJ), welcomed the guests.

International cooperation

During the meeting, the general situation in Syria, particularly in northeastern Syria, was discussed, and the importance of implementing the agreement of March 10 and continuing negotiations between the autonomous administration and the self-proclaimed Syrian transitional government was emphasized.

The Department of Foreign Relations emphasized the importance of cooperation and coordination with Spain and advocated extending relations beyond humanitarian issues to all areas of mutual interest.

Repatriation of ISIS members

The autonomous administration and the international anti-ISIS coalition repeatedly call on countries to bring their citizens back from ISIS camps in DAANES territories. The representatives of the Autonomous Administration expressed their gratitude to Spain for doing so. They also emphasized their continued cooperation with all countries that have nationals among the families associated with ISIS in order to bring them home.

The Spanish ambassador said: “We commend the Syrian Democratic Forces for their contribution to the fight against ISIS. We remain concerned about the security situation in the region, as the organization still poses a threat despite its weakness, and it is essential to prevent its resurgence.”

He added: “We all share the same goal, namely ending violence, combating terrorism, and promoting stability in Syria and the region, and I would like to highlight the contribution of countries around the world to these joint efforts in the fight against terrorism, alongside the international community, the police, and military institutions.”
