Guerrillas celebrate the founding anniversary of the PKK

In the Medya Defense Zones in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq), Kurdish guerrilla units celebrated “National Resurrection Day”, the anniversary of the founding of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) on November 27.

Several guerrilla commanders also took part in the celebration, including Hakî Armanc, Jînda Ronahî, Sertav Doğan, and Sorxwîn Avesta. Traditional songs were sung and Govend dances were performed.

The founding of the PKK in 1978 is regarded by the Kurdish movement as the beginning of organized resistance against state repression.
