Vahap Karatay, who was released from Elazığ Type T Prison after 31 years, was received by his family in front of the prison and then traveled to Doğubeyazıt (Bazîd) in Ağrı (Agirî) province. A large crowd gathered at the entrance of the district to welcome him.
Karatay, greeted with torches, proceeded to his family home in Barış Neighborhood. In front of the house, people danced halay and chanted the slogan “Bijî berxwedana zindanan” (“Long live the resistance of the prisoners”).
Speaking briefly during the welcome, Karatay said: “I hope that our people’s struggle for a Democratic Society will achieve victory. To succeed, we all need to work in an organized manner.”
