Ateş toured Europe with his solo show ‘Dawiya Dawî’

Amed (Diyarbakır) City Theater member Özcan Ateş brought his one-man stand-up show “Dawiya Dawî” to audiences across several European cities. The performance, which portrays the experiences of individuals held between urban and rural cultures through sharp, humorous storytelling, drew strong interest from theatergoers.

Ateş spoke about his performances in Essen, Amsterdam, The Hague and Brussels, and said: “We have performed in front of audiences many times before. A few months ago, I was asked to stage ‘Dawiya Dawî’ again. We began this year’s tour in the city of Essen in Germany. Cultural events are vibrant there, and when we went on stage, we received tremendous energy from the audience.”

Ateş noted that the Essen performance coincided with another concert on the same day and said: “Even though attendance was small, what mattered most to me was that everyone who came left the hall with a smile.”

Ateş added that the shows in Amsterdam and The Hague in the Netherlands also unfolded in a warm atmosphere despite certain shortcomings and said: “Timing, venue and date can all affect the size of the audience. In Brussels, attendance was lower due to technical reasons.”

Ateş also offered his impressions of the cultural and artistic environment in Europe and said:“Cultural and artistic activities in Europe, especially in the field of theatre, have not yet fully settled. There are still some organizational shortcomings. When we began these efforts in Amed, the situation was similar. We hope that these activities will become more widespread and more strongly embraced in the future.”
