Anthropologist Inhorn and academic Kurt express support for the process

Feminist anthropologist Marcia C. Inhorn and social anthropologist Mehmet Mashuq Kurt sent a message to the DEM Party, highlighting their solidarity with the peace initiative in Turkey and with the Kurdish people.

The two academics wrote: “We express our solidarity with the peace process in Turkey and with the Kurdish people, and we hope this process becomes a genuine step toward justice and equality. This process must ensure the constitutional recognition of Kurdish rights, equal participation, and an end to the long-standing discrimination. Likewise, the struggle for peace and democracy should no longer be criminalized as a requirement of this process.

We sincerely hope that the legal reforms required by the process will be implemented without delay, and that all obstacles to the Kurds’ full participation in democratic politics will be removed. A peace based on the recognition of Kurdish rights will strengthen social cohesion and expand democratic life for all communities in Turkey. A just and inclusive peace will not only be a transformative moment for the Kurds but also a gain on regional and global scales.”

Marcia C. Inhorn is a professor at Yale University and a leading medical anthropologist known for her pioneering research on health, reproductive technologies, and gender in the Middle East.
