Three more Kurdish civilians imprisoned in Iran

Three Kurdish citizens from Piranshahr have been sent to Naqadeh Prison to serve the three-year sentences imposed on them by the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Mahabad, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has reported.

Ahad Khezrnezhad, Omid Khezrnezhad and Shwana Khezrnezhad were recently summoned to the Office for the Enforcement of Criminal Judgments in Piranshahr, and were transferred to Naqadeh Prison on 10 November after reporting to the prosecutor’s office.

Ministry of Intelligence agents arrested Ahad and Shwana Khezrnezhad in Piranshahr on 22 January 2024, and detained Omid three days later after he was summoned to the intelligence office in the city.

Following their arrests, the three men were taken to the Ministry of Intelligence detention centre in Orumiyeh.

After initial interrogation, all three were moved to Naqadeh Prison and provisionally released on 5 June 2024 on bail of 20 billion rials (almost 20,000 USD).

They were later tried at Branch One of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Mahabad, which sentenced them to three years in prison for “acting against national security” through membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI).
