Protests in Finland against arrest of Kurdish activists

Kurds and their friends gathered in front of the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs to protest the detention of three Kurdish activists. The activists had been detained on the allegation of “providing financial support for terrorism.”

The protest was organized on the same day that Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan was holding meetings in Finland, and after Finnish Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen made remarks praising the Ottoman Empire in relation to Fidan.

During the demonstration, a press statement was read in three languages. The statement emphasized that the detention decision was a political move aimed at pleasing the Turkish government and called for the immediate release of the activists.
