Three dead in scaffolding collapse at bridge construction site in Kulp

Three construction workers were killed on Tuesday when a support scaffold collapsed at a bridge construction site in the district of Kulp in the Kurdish province of Amed (Diyarbakır). Three other workers were seriously injured and taken to Amed for treatment.

The accident occurred approximately two kilometers outside the center of Kulp at the construction site of a new bridge, which is being built as part of an infrastructure project to relocate the Kulp-Muş road. The existing road will be flooded in the future due to the construction of a dam. The new bridge is being built by the General Directorate of Highways and the State Water Authority.

Wooden scaffolding collapsed during work

According to emergency services, wooden scaffolding collapsed during concrete work. Six workers fell several meters and were buried under the structures. Three of them died at the scene of the accident, while three others were seriously injured and taken to hospital. According to the doctors, their condition is critical.

Investigation into the cause of the accident ongoing

The co-mayors of the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) went to the scene of the accident in order to assess the situation. According to initial information, the workers involved in the accident were employed by Maktaş İnşaat, the company contracted to carry out the construction work. No official information was initially available on the exact cause of the accident, into which an investigation has been launched.
