Annecy grants honorary citizenship to Narges Mohammadi

As part of the opening of its annual “Month of Solidarity” events, the Annecy Municipality declared Mohammadi an “Honorary Citizen of Annecy” to draw attention to human rights violations in Iran.

At the ceremony, Mohammadi’s son, Ali Rahmani, and husband, Taghi Rahmani, attended on her behalf, as she remains imprisoned in Iran. The Rahmani family received the award on her behalf.

The Narges Mohammadi Foundation described Annecy’s recognition as “a meaningful gesture of international solidarity with the human rights struggle in Iran and with activists working in this field.”

The foundation thanked the people and administration of Annecy, emphasizing that the gesture sends “a strong message of support and solidarity to human rights defenders in Iran.”
