ISIG: At least 169 workers died in October

The Occupational Health and Safety Observatory (ISIG) published its “Workplace Murders Report” for October. According to the report, at least 169 workers lost their lives in workplace-related incidents in October. The total number of worker deaths in the first ten months of the year reached 1,737.

The distribution of deaths by sector was as follows:
Agriculture and forestry: 27%
Construction and road: 25%
Transportation: 15%
Metal: 6%
Trade/education: 5%

Main causes of death:
Crushing and collapse: 23%
Traffic and commuting accidents: 20%
Falls from height: 17%

Among those who lost their lives, 12 were women and 157 were men. In addition, 8 children, including one under the age of 14, and 7 refugee/migrant workers also died.

Age distribution of workers:
15–17 years: 7 workers
18–29 years: 32 workers
30–49 years: 61 workers
50–64 years: 46 workers
Over 65 years: 14 workers

The provinces with the highest number of workplace deaths were Istanbul (19), Mersin (10), Ankara (9), and Bursa (7).
