As part of an investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, police raids were carried out on homes in Istanbul and Antalya on 28 October. A total of 17 people, including several members of the ESP (Socialist Party of the Oppressed), were detained during the raids. Of those detained, 2 people at the Istanbul Provincial Security Directorate became “informants” by taking advantage of the “effective remorse” law. Therefore, these 2 informants were released after giving their statements to the police.
The remaining 15 people were referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan after police procedures were completed. Following the prosecutor’s review, 3 of the 15 were referred to the court with a request for judicial control, while 13 were referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for arrest on charges of “membership in an illegal organization.” The court decided to release one person under judicial control and to arrest 12 members of the ESP on charges of “membership in an organization.”
