KNK Co-Chair: Kurds are an organized and active actor in the Middle East

A public meeting was held in Montreal, Canada, at the Fondation Kurde du Québec meeting hall. The event began with a moment of silence in memory of the martyrs of Kurdistan and the singing of the Ey Raqib anthem.

Ahmet Karamus, Co-Chair of the Kurdistan National Congress (KNK), who is in Canada for a series of meetings in Canada, also attended the meeting which addressed several topics such as the peace and democratic society process initiated by Abdullah Öcalan’s, the PKK’s disarmament and withdrawal from Turkey.

Emphasizing the role of the Kurdish people in the current process, Karamus said, “The Kurds are analyzing and interpreting the Middle East; they are determining their steps and strategy accordingly. This withdrawal is a step taken to ensure that the process of peace and democratic society is not disrupted and is successful. It shows that the Kurdish people’s loyalty to their leadership has been reaffirmed.”

Karamus stated that Kurds continue their struggle for freedom and democracy in every region, saying: “Kurds in Rojava, Rojhilat, Bakur, and Bashur trust their leadership; they remain loyal to their party and their martyrs. They are not hopeless, but more hopeful and closer to freedom. We should not pay attention to the propaganda of those who want to cast a shadow over the peace process. The people of Kurdistan should unite; they should support the work towards freedom and peace. Kurds are no longer helpless in the Middle East; they are an organized and active actor.”

The co-chairs of the Fondation Kurde du Québec also addressed the participants, stating that they would support the peace and democracy process initiated by Öcalan and continue their efforts to lift the isolation.
