At the First Communes Conference of Jazira (Cizîr) Canton, organized by the Democratic Autonomous Administration of Northern and Eastern Syria, the session began with the election of the board, followed by a reading in Kurdish and Arabic of Abdullah Öcalan’s perspective on communes.
The conference was held in the Azadî Park Hall in Qamishlo, where Aldar Xelil, a member of the Presidential Council of the Democratic Union Party (PYD), evaluated the current political situation.
Xelil said that the existing system contradicts the natural order of life and added: “If we fail to see this, we cannot understand the current situation or the changes taking place in the region. A hundred years ago, they came to this region and drew a map. That caused conflict, and this system has been a system of conflict ever since. Today, they are deepening the conflict in Syria as they have done in Gaza. We, too, are living through a war within this conflict and have been struggling for fifty years. When al-Jolani (Ahmed al-Sharaa) was sent to Damascus, the mercenary groups attacked us as well, saying, ‘You will become like us.’ At that point, Öcalan intervened. He said he saw the situation in the region worsening. Öcalan’s call to stop the war at the Tishrin Dam affected the plans of international powers.”
Xelil drew attention to the situation in Turkey and continued: “Now they want to intervene in Turkey. Abdullah Öcalan foresaw this. The Turkish constitution must change. We have been struggling for years and have made our existence known. The Turkish state was forced to acknowledge that Kurds exist.”
Xelil also emphasized Abdullah Öcalan’s efforts for a democratic solution and said:“He tried to achieve this solution twenty years ago. But at that time, Turkish officials did not have the insight to understand it. Now they do. Abdullah Öcalan wants to change the chaos and the situation in Turkey. The change in Turkey will also affect Syria.
Today, we are holding talks with Damascus officials to rebuild Syria, but they do not come because they are trapped inside a box, while we have long been outside it. They say, ‘We will not come.’ Why? Because the Turks do not agree to it. They cannot take a step without Turkey’s consent. They do not dare to move forward. The return of refugees from Afrin (Efrîn), Serêkaniyê and Girê Spî is on the agenda, but no steps are being taken. Sheikh Maqsoud (Şêxmeqsud) and Ashrafiye (Eşrefiyê) neighborhoods are also under siege. Therefore, this issue is directly related to the democratization of Turkey, all roads lead to Imrali.”
