The Kurdistan Freedom Guerrillas said that they have taken a historic step by withdrawing from areas with a risk of conflict in line with Abdullah Öcalancalan’s call and the decisions of the PKK’s 12th Congress. Stressing that they will prepare in all areas for the construction of a democratic society and that Öcalan’s freedom is their main objective, the guerrillas called on all peoples not only to support but also to actively participate in the process.
The Kurdistan Freedom Movement announced in a press conference held in Qandil that a historic step has been taken for the Peace and Democratic Society process. Alongside KCK Executive Council Member Sabri Ok, 25 freedom guerrillas, including YJA Star Serhad Province Commander Vejîn Dersîm from Bakur Kurdistan who had moved to the Media Defense Zones, and HPG Command Council Member and Garzan Province Commander Devrîm Palu, attended the statement.
The guerrillas’ call resonated widely across the world. YJA Star guerrilla Nûda Arîn and HPG guerrilla Kendal Mîtra, who took part in this historic announcement, spoke to ANF about its meaning and goals.
We took our place on a historic initiative
Nûda Arîn, who withdrew from the Botan region to the Media Defense Zones, said that they took a historic step in line with Leader Apo’s call and the PKK’s 12th Congress decisions. Arîn added that the guerrillas withdrew from areas with a potential for clashes to avoid affecting the process.
Guerrilla Arîn said: “I am a guerrilla from the Botan region, and I am taking my place in this initiative. Our goal is to act in line with Leader Apo’s [Abdullah Öcalan] call and the PKK’s 12th Congress decisions. We withdrew from areas where clashes might occur so as not to disrupt the process. With our withdrawal and today’s announcement, we have taken a historic step. In doing so, we have put into practice the necessary step for Leader Apo’s Peace and Democratic Society Project. Once again today, we have powerfully demonstrated to everyone our commitment to Leader Apo and to a Peaceful and Democratic Society, and that we will do everything in our power for it. We have done everything necessary up to this point and will continue to do so. The process initiated by Leader Apo will achieve victory. We believe the guerrillas will do everything they can to make this happen.”
We are on the ground to lead society and build a communal life
YJA Star guerrilla Nûda Arîn emphasized that, despite the challenges of being a woman guerrilla fighting in the toughest conditions, their commitment to Öcalan’s ideas and philosophy has made them strong.
She said: “As women, taking part in guerrilla zones and fighting under the hardest conditions certainly had its difficulties. But our commitment to Leader Apo’s thought and philosophy enabled us to overcome these challenges and develop an iron will. Our responsibility in this process is to lead society and build communal life. As YJA Star guerrillas, we have taken our place in this process. Our fundamental stance is to be worthy of Leader Apo’s call and to respond to his ideas and philosophy.”
Leader Öcalan’s freedom is our priority
HPG guerrilla Kendal Mîtra, another of the participants in the historic process, emphasized that only Öcalan can bring this process to success. Mîtra said that they see this as a strategic step and will bring about change and transformation within themselves.
He said that they are ready in every field for the construction of a democratic society and that they will do everything to be worthy of Öcalan, adding: “We see the step we took as a strategic one; we will create change and transformation within our own personalities. We are preparing ourselves in every field for the construction of a democratic society. We will do everything we can to be worthy of Leader Apo. Despite all the impossibilities, Leader Apo has done everything in his power. If he attains physical freedom, there will be a major transformation in the Middle East and Kurdistan. For us, the most important thing is Leader Apo’s freedom. We have once again proven this through the congress decisions and the recent withdrawal decision. All of this demonstrates Leader Apo’s significance and the value he holds for us.”
Everyone must fulfill their responsibility
At the end of his remarks, Mîtra issued a call on all peoples: “Everyone must fulfill their duty. Our peoples, whether Kurdish, Turkish, or Arab, should not remain merely in a position of support; they must actively participate in the process. We guerrillas are doing our part; the peoples must also do theirs.”
