The Municipality of Fabriano, Italy, has awarded honorary citizenship to Kurdish female prisoners Pakshan Azizi, Sharifeh Mohammadi, and Warisha Moradi in recognition of their resistance in the struggle for human rights.
Following a decision by the City Council, honorary citizenship certificates were presented to representatives of the three female prisoners at a special ceremony held in Fabriano on October 23.
Speaking at the opening of the ceremony, Fabriano City Council President Giovanni Balducci drew attention to the three women’s struggle for human rights and freedom, stating, “As the City of Fabriano, we will continue to support the quest for justice and freedom of Kurdish and Iranian women.”
The honorary citizenship certificates for the three women were presented to their representatives by Cecilia Guida, Chair of the Equal Opportunities Commission on behalf of the Municipality of Fabriano, Mayor Daniela Ghergo, and Council Member Marta Ricciotti.
On October 1, the Municipality of Jesi, Italy, also granted the title of “honorary citizenship” to three female prisoners.
The Iranian Supreme Court upheld the death sentences of Pakshan Azizi on January 8, 2025, of Warisha Moradi on May 10, 2024, and Sharifeh Mohammadi on February 13.
