The Cizîre Canton Internal Security Forces said in a statement that they carried out an operation in the village of Kerhûk (al-Faz’a) in the countryside of Qamishlo. The statement added that the operation targeted a group identified as being involved in drug trafficking, theft, blackmail, and kidnapping.
The statement reported that an armed clash broke out during the operation, resulting in the death of a person identified as a drug dealer, while four others were taken into custody.
“During the clash, the members of the group used women and children as human shields. This forced the temporary suspension of the operation to ensure the safety of civilians,” the statement said.
It also noted that, following the mediation of several tribal leaders in the area, an agreement was reached for two additional suspects to surrender to the security forces. Several stolen vehicles and weapons were also seized during the operation.
The Internal Security Forces of the Cizîre Canton stated that some information circulating on social media about the operation was false and intended to mislead the public. The statement emphasized that “justice will be served against all those engaged in drug trafficking and threatening the safety of society.”
