Increase in kidnapping cases in northern Syria

In areas controlled by the Syrian Interim Government, incidents of kidnapping and murder have been rising dangerously. Most recently, unidentified armed groups kidnapped a man from Latakia and attempted to abduct a child in rural Quneitra.

Three unidentified men tried to kidnap a student from Ratib al-Mousa Primary School at noon. However, the child resisted and was injured in the process. According to local sources, the assailants tried to force the child into a car, but the child fought back and screamed for help. One of the attackers injured the child while attempting to drag him into the vehicle. Other students who witnessed the incident called for help, and the injured child was taken to the hospital by bystanders.

On the same day, in the Awqaf neighborhood of Latakia, businessman Salah Aslan, a relative of General Ali Aslan, was also abducted by unidentified armed men in front of his home. Witnesses said the attackers forced Aslan into a car and took him to an unknown location. The incident was also captured on video.
