Ross: Kurdish movement has created a new egalitarian model

In a message to the Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party), Scottish social scientist Prof. Andrew Ross described the democratic society model developed by the Kurdish freedom movement as a rare example in the modern era. He called on the Turkish government to view the peace process as a historic opportunity.

Ross’s message read: “The Kurdish movement, from its grassroots to its leadership, has created a new egalitarian model of society. In modern times, we have seldom if ever witnessed the emergence of such a form of democracy. The decision to disarm and dissolve the organization was a courageous step. The reintegration of the Kurdish people into Turkey’s political structure can only serve as a source of hope and strength. The Turkish government must not waste this historic opportunity to transform a peace agreement into a new and vibrant multicultural order.”
