Syrian transitional government closes Tabqa-Salamiyeh road once again

On Tuesday, Transitional Government Forces have reclosed the Tabqa-Salamiyeh road connecting northern and eastern Syria to other parts of the country.

Government forces had previously closed the road for 14 days, reopening it on October 20.

Video footage from the ground shows hundreds of cars waiting at a checkpoint manned by Transitional Government forces at Zakiye Junction near the village of Asriye in the Hama countryside.

Co-chair of the Raqqa Canton Drivers Union, Hesen Xabur, said that the Transitional Government forces had once again blocked the road with barriers, causing vehicles to pile up at checkpoints. Xabur said passengers expressed their dissatisfaction with this sudden decision and that arguments broke out between them and government forces at the checkpoints.

The Transitional Government has not yet made a statement regarding the road closure.
