Prisoners at Qezel Hesar Prison sew their lips shut during ongoing hunger strike against executions

More than 1,500 prisoners sentenced to death and held in Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj, Iran, have been on hunger strike since October 15 to protest executions. Over the past few days, 17 prisoners have been executed.

According to the Voice of Kurdish and Iranian Prisoners website, the prisoners are continuing their indefinite hunger strike. A large number of prisoners have sewn their lips shut, taking their action to a further stage.

According to information obtained from inside the prison, many prisoners’ health conditions have deteriorated. Prisoners managed to stop the guards, who took action to separate those who sewed their lips shut. The prisoners are continuing their resistance with a united will, refusing to be separated from each other.

Reports say that guards threatened prisoners with solitary confinement last night, in response to which the prisoners reiterated their determination to continue the hunger strike regardless of the pressure.

Meanwhile, female political prisoners at Evin Prison issued a statement expressing their support for the resistance in Qezel Hesar. The female prisoners called for the resistance against the executions to turn into a social solidarity movement.
