Syrian Transitional Government forces continue to violate the April 1 Agreement by constructing numerous military posts and earthen barriers around the neighborhoods of Sheikh Maqsood and Ashrafiyah in Aleppo.
A new military post has been established on the hill in Tariq Bin Ziyad Park next to the Ashrafiyah neighborhood, with an earthen barrier constructed alongside it.
According to Article 5 of the April 1 agreement, earthen barriers on public roads will be removed until security and stability are established in both neighborhoods, while main checkpoints will remain under the control of the Internal Security Forces affiliated with the Ministry of the Interior.
According to Article 3 of the agreement, “The Ministry of the Interior and Internal Security Forces shall cooperate to protect the residents of both neighborhoods and prevent any attacks against them.”
Observers state that these steps are part of a series of repeated violations aimed at undermining efforts to ensure security and stability. In response to these steps, appropriate measures must be taken to protect public safety, they say.
Earlier today, groups affiliated with the Syrian Transitional Government attacked an Internal Security Forces checkpoint in Aleppo. Two members of the Internal Security Forces were seriously injured in the attack on the checkpoint located at the Shihan Junction in Ashrafiyah neighborhood.
