Kurdish women’s rights activist Sirûnaz Ehmedî begins hunger strike in Iran

As pressure on political prisoners continues in Iran, Sirûnaz Ehmedî announced through her official account that she had started a hunger strike in solidarity with Sîmyarî. She stated that her protest would continue until October 15, and that if Sîmyarî’s demands were not met, she would extend her strike.

Ehmedî linked Sîmyarî’s protest to the case of Ferîba Kemal Abadî, who has been imprisoned for 10 years, saying: “Ferîba Kemal Abadî has been in prison for a decade. She should have been released, yet the Iranian state keeps postponing it. This is a clear act of psychological torture.”

Describing Kemal Abadî’s resistance as “a symbol of victory,” Ehmedî emphasized that the struggle of women prisoners has been growing in defiance of the Iranian state’s repressive policies.

It is worth noting that on October 12, political prisoner Nesîm Sîmyarî began a hunger strike in Evin Prison demanding the release of Ferîba Kemal Abadî. Last week, a decision was reportedly made for Kemal Abadî’s release.
