Many internationalist and revolutionary organizations gathered in front of the Turkish Trade Office in São Paulo to mark the second anniversary of the international campaign organized for Abdullah Öcalan. The demonstration called for the freedom of Öcalan and all political prisoners.
Numerous revolutionary and international social organizations in Brazil gathered today at 3:00 p.m. in front of the Turkish Trade Office in São Paulo. During the demonstration, which condemned the international conspiracy of October 9, participants expressed their support for the international campaign for Öcalan. The social organizations taking part drew attention to the genocidal policies against the Kurdish people and shared messages of international solidarity.
Organizations participating in the demonstration and event in São Paulo included Luta Popular, MES-PSOL (Socialism and Freedom Party – Socialist Movement), Colectivo Latinoamericano Berta, Movimiento de Juventud Ya Basta, Colectivo de Juventud Juntos, OSL (Libertarian Socialist Organization), PSTU (United Socialist Workers’ Party), Editorial Contrabando, SINTUSP (Workers’ Union), SOB (Socialism or Barbarism), and Treta no Trampo, among others.
All the social organizations jointly declared that “the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan is the freedom of all peoples,” expressing their support for the peace and democratic society process initiated by Öcalan on February 27, 2025. Throughout the two-hour protest, brochures describing the struggle of the Kurdish people and Öcalan were distributed, and a joint press statement was read.
Feminist activist Tamara Suri opened the event, highlighting the importance of taking to the streets on the second anniversary of the campaign. She spoke about the history of the Kurdish people, the occupation of their lands, and emphasized the role of women’s struggle and Abdullah Öcalan in this process. Afterward, a joint declaration signed by many organizations in Brazil was read, followed by several speeches.
Bruno Magalhães, a representative of MES-PSOL, stated that solidarity itself is an expression of joining the struggles of all peoples. He said: “When the world didn’t know how to defeat ISIS (Daesh), the Kurdish people, especially the women in Rojava, showed everyone what resistance means. The Turkish state wants to crush the struggle of our comrades in Kurdistan, but from the prisoners and fighters we have learned the determination of the world’s largest stateless nation. We salute Abdullah Öcalan’s resistance.”
Fabio, a representative of PTSU and the Workers’ Union, emphasized that the determination of international struggle signifies support for the struggles of all peoples around the world, saying: “We stand with the Kurdish people’s struggle and support the steps taken by the PKK. Despite facing constant attacks, they have built a confederal system of life for their people; this is an inspiring model for all of us. We support all political organizations fighting for the liberation of Kurdistan and the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan.”
Kauan William, a representative of OSL, stated that the right of all peoples to self-determination and autonomy is rooted in the principle of internationalist struggle, adding: “We respectfully salute the struggle of all feminist, anti-fascist, and socialist democratic forces. The Kurdish Freedom Movement is a global example. Freedom for Öcalan, peace for all peoples!”
Aldo Cordeiro, a representative of Editorial Contrabando, said: “What unites us today is the sense of brotherhood with the Kurdish and Palestinian peoples. The Kurdish people and the PKK have resisted under genocidal threats of the Turkish state. Their struggle is part of the broader fight for freedom and autonomy in the Middle East. The PKK is a revolutionary example of our era. We send our deepest respect to Abdullah Öcalan; his freedom represents the freedom of all Kurdish prisoners and a step toward advancing the peace process in the Middle East. The struggle of Kurdish women is the hope in the fight against oppression.”
At the end of the speeches, the importance of reaffirming solidarity with the struggles of the Palestinian and Kurdish peoples was emphasized. It was noted that the struggle of the Kurdish Freedom Movement is an example of solidarity with the freedom struggles of peoples around the world.
Despite heavy security measures and obstructions by Brazilian police, the demonstration concluded with chants and speeches. At the end, participants shouted slogans such as ‘Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan!’ and ‘Solidarity with the Kurdish people!’
