The international campaign “Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan, A Political Solution to the Kurdish Question” marked its second anniversary on 10 October. A common message resonated throughout the actions organized in many countries to demand freedom for Abdullah Öcalan. The actions also reaffirmed that Öcalan’s ideas of “democratic modernity” have inspired global struggles. Led primarily by women and young people, the events emphasized the need for an ecological, democratic, and liberation model of society.
The campaign committee announced that actions will continue in the coming days, with new events being planned to mark the 27th anniversary of the international conspiracy that led to Öcalan’s abduction.
The committee said that “the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan and thousands of political prisoners is a vital step toward a peace process in the Middle East.”
