In a new report on the growing repression, arrests, and prison sentences in Eastern Kurdistan, the Kurdistan Human Rights Organization said that a civil activist and a citizen were sent to prison, a Kurdish prisoner has been missing for 48 days, and two citizens were recently detained.
According to the organization’s statement, on October 6, Kurdish civil activist Agare Sadiqî from the city of Bokan in Eastern Kurdistan was sent to prison to serve the sentence previously issued by the court.
Sadiqî had been detained by Iranian security forces in May 2024 and sentenced to one year in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the state.”
The statement also noted that a Kurdish citizen from the city of Mahabad, Yunis Tenhayî, was sentenced to 20 months and one day in prison by Branch 1 of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Yasir Guzeli.
Tenhayî, a father of two, was tried on the charge of “collaboration with anti-Iranian groups.” During his detention, he was reportedly denied basic rights such as meeting with a lawyer and contacting his family.
He had been arrested in June during a raid on his home by Mahabad Intelligence forces without a court order.
No contact with Hoşyar Şebanî for 48 days
The organization reported that there has been no information for 48 days about Kurdish activist Hoşyar Şebanî (31), who was detained in the city of Bane.
It remains unknown where Şebanî is being held. He was reportedly arrested on August 20 in the Kanî Sûr district of Bane, after intelligence forces opened fire on his car and took him away while injured.
Şebanî had previously been detained multiple times — in 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2022 — for participating in solidarity actions with kolbars (border porters) and striking workers, and he was sentenced to prison twice.
Hesen Mêhrabî and Kameran Sultanî detained
The statement also reported that a citizen named Hesen Mêhrabî (42) from the village of Nê in Merîwan was detained by Iranian security forces and taken to an unknown location.
Mêhrabî had previously been summoned to a security center, but was detained on the way by plainclothes Iranian forces.
In addition, a citizen named Kameran Sultanî (45) from Bokan was detained without a court order and through the use of force, and his camera and memory card were confiscated.
Repression and arrests increase
The Kurdistan Human Rights Organization emphasized that repression, arrests, and sentencing against Kurds in Eastern Kurdistan are intensifying.
The organization also warned that the situation of prisoners in Iranian prisons is critically dangerous, noting that teachers and religious scholars have also become targets of the regime.
In a previous report, the organization stated that 47 people were executed in Eastern Kurdistan in September alone.
