The Presidential Council of the Syrian Democratic Council (MSD) held a meeting to assess the transition process and current political developments in Syria.
The meeting was attended by MSD Co-Chairs Leyla Qereman and Mahmoud Al-Mislid, along with members of the administration.
The meeting addressed the general political situation in Syria and, in particular, the “People’s Assembly” elections held by the Syrian Transitional Government, which excluded the Suwayda and North and East Syria regions.
Participants stated that these elections did not reflect the demands of the people and did not allow for the fair representation of women and all components of society.
MSD members emphasized that all Syrians, both those living in the country and those abroad, should be able to participate in the elections. They stressed the importance of holding transparent and fair elections under the supervision of international observers. They stated that this approach would contribute to ending divisions and establishing lasting peace and justice.
The recent military activity in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafiyah neighborhoods of Aleppo was also discussed at the meeting. Participants considered these developments a violation of the April 1 Agreement.
MSD also addressed the delays in implementing the March 10 Agreement signed between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Syrian Transitional Government.
The Syrian Democratic Council stated that the main reason for the delays was the transitional government’s obstruction that led to the loss of opportunities for a national solution.
At the end of the meeting, the participants emphasized that decentralization is a fundamental condition for Syria’s stability, while any non-decentralized political forum would deepen instability.
The MSD called on the transitional government to hold elections in a transparent, fair, and representative manner. It also demanded that a national congress be convened to bring all political forces together to agree on a common political solution.
