Formed about seven years ago, Koma Hevra aims to establish both a musical and cultural connection through the reinterpretation of the epic “Dewrêşê Evdî û Edûlê”.
In a statement about their work, the group said: “The epic “Dewrêşê Evdî û Edûlê” holds a very important place in Kurdish history, culture, and sociology. Mr. Abdullah Öcalan has also made deep sociological analyses of this epic. By saying that ‘Kurdish love only gains meaning and comes to life when it unites with the homeland and social truth,’ he embodied this idea through the love between Dewrêşê Evdî and Edûlê. We have re-composed and interpreted this Kurdish-Yazidi epic. After a long and meaningful effort, we are delighted to share the work with our valued listeners.”
The song’s lyrics and music were entirely created by Hevra. The video transforms the tragic and profound story of Dewrêşê Evdî and Edûlê into a visual narrative.
With this project, Koma Hevra not only presents a musical production but also reinterprets the epic tradition, an important part of Kurdish folk culture, through the language of contemporary art.
