The 7th International Book Fair in Sulaymaniyah in South Kurdistan has begun. The exhibition opened on Friday at the city’s exhibition center and features more than 250,000 books on various topics.
The fair will feature children’s and young adult books as well as works on education, art, politics, economics, society, history, philosophy, and other subjects. The books come from around 250 publishers and printers in 16 countries.
Erwan Siweyl, Director of the Publishing and Distribution Press in Sulaymaniyah, stated that the fair will remain open for eleven days. Special attention is being paid to the linguistic diversity of the offerings. “There are books in many different languages—readers have a wide selection to choose from here,” said Siweyl.
In recent years, the book fair in Sulaymaniyah has developed into an important cultural meeting place in the Kurdistan region of Iraq. It not only provides access to literature, but also offers a space for encounters, discussions, and readings.
