Yazidi women respond to Abdullah Öcalan’s message: Our struggle has grown stronger

Abdullah Öcalan’s letter, written on 8 December 2025, to the administration of Shengal and the Yazidi community, was shared with the public on 30 September 2025. In the letter, Abdullah Öcalan affirmed the existence and rights of the Yazidi people, declaring: “You will never again experience new fermans (genocidal decrees).”

The Rojava Yazidi Women’s Union issued a written statement saying: “This important letter sent by Leader Abdullah Öcalan to the Yazidi community has further strengthened our struggle. It reinforced our resistance on the path of democracy and peace. Throughout history, the yazidi community has faced repeated fermans against its identity and culture. Yazidi women, in particular, were targeted by terrorists and criminals in an attempt to tear them away from their society. But Leader Abdullah Öcalan showed us the path of freedom and democracy. We will realize the hope of achieving an honorable and common life based on the foundation of a democratic nation.”

The Yazidi Women’s Union emphasized that the letter has become a source of morale for the Yazidi people’s historical struggle and reaffirmed their determination to expand the struggle on the basis of peace and freedom.
