TÜRK-IŞ: Unemployment rises again

TÜRK-IŞ published the results of its September 2025 “Hunger and Poverty Line Research.” According to the report, the poverty line has surpassed four times the current minimum wage. Food expenditures in Ankara increased by 3.17% monthly and 41% annually. 

The hunger line for a family of four rose to 27,970 liars (1,865 euros), while the poverty line increased to 91,109 liars (576 euros).

Meanwhile, according to TÜİK data, the number of unemployed in August 2025 increased by 168,000 compared to the previous month, reaching 3.044 million. The unemployment rate rose by 0.4 points to 8.5%. While the unemployment rate for men was 6.8%, it reached 11.6% for women.

The number of employed persons rose by 208,000 in the same period, reaching 32.829 million, and the employment rate increased to 49.4%. However, the youth unemployment rate rose by 0.8 points to 16%. Youth unemployment was recorded at 12.4% among young men and 22.7% among young women.

The rate of idle labor force (broadly defined unemployment) also rose to 29.7%, maintaining its critical level.
