Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan, incarcerated in İmralı Island Prison since 1999, sent a letter to the Yazidi community in Shengal.
This is the third letter the Kurdish leader has sent to the Yazidis recently.
The letter, addressed to the Shengal administration and the Yazidi community, was read in the Leader’s Garden in the Kersê Valley.
The letter reads as follows:
“To the Shengal administration and the Yazidi community…
I am not Yazidi, but I have taken your pain and your identity to heart. You will never experience new genocides again; this oppression will never be repeated anywhere. I will not give up on holding those responsible for the last massacre accountable. I will not give up on the women and children who were abducted. I will fight to the end for their rescue and for justice to be served. I have made it my mission to work together to build a future where you can live freely and proudly continue your culture.
I have great respect for you. I protect your existence and your rights. I received the precious gift you sent. I promise that one day I will meet you wearing that outfit. With the hope of meeting in freedom and strength.
