DEM Party Women’s Assembly meets with women in Ankara

DEM Party co-chair Tülay Hatimoğulları, Women’s Assembly spokesperson Halide Türkoğlu, and Coordination member Elif Bulut met with women in Ankara to amplify women’s voices and solidarity in the process of building peace and a democratic society.

The gathering was attended by SOLDEP-Women, Socialist Feminists from EHP, women from EMEP, the We Will Stop Femicides Platform, the Gender Studies Association, the Association of Women’s Movement Against Ableism, Women’s Liberation, Yeni Yaşam Association, DISK Women’s Assembly, the Revolutionary ’78ers Federation, and many other women.

During the meeting, which included an update on the process, the representatives of the Women’s Assembly shared its work with women from different groups within the framework of Abdullah Öcalan’s call for peace and a democratic society, highlighting the significance of the peace process for women.

The necessity of socializing peace and the importance of struggle were emphasized, while recalling women’s historical role in the fight for peace, disarmament, an end to conflicts, and against militarism. It was stressed that peace processes must be carried out with women’s participation, and that a peace which ignores women can be neither genuine nor lasting.

The meeting pointed out that the solution to the issue has sociological, social, political, economic, and gender dimensions, and that peace must encompass all of these. It was noted that a peace that fails to address every dimension cannot be permanent or stable.

The gathering concluded with a Q&A session in which women shared their views, suggestions, and evaluations regarding the process.
