Fate of Kurdish villagers detained in Iran weeks ago remains unknown

The fate of the detained Kurdish citizens Mostafa and Kioumars Advaei remains unknown, weeks after their arrest by the Ministry of Intelligence in the village of Selin in Sarvabad, Kurdistan Province, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has reported.

According to a source in Selin, at dawn on 7 September, around 18 vehicles carrying intelligence forces raided the village in an operation to arrest six residents. Four of the residents were not at home and thus avoided arrest, but two men – retired teacher Mostafa Advaei and 23-year-old Kioumars Advaei – were arrested without a warrant.

The source added that security forces broke doors and windows during the raids, insulted family members, and confiscated personal belongings.

Relatives of the two men have since approached security and judicial authorities in Sarvabad and Marivan in Kurdistan Province, but no official information has been provided regarding their fate or whereabouts.

Both men have been denied phone calls, family visits, and access to legal counsel since their detention.

This is not the first time that the younger of the two has been targeted by security forces. On 17 July 2020, when he was 17 years old, Kioumars Advaei was arrested by Ministry of Intelligence forces and was released on bail a month later following interrogation.
