Women’s rights activist and journalist Jina Modarres Gorji, who had been imprisoned, was freed from Sine Prison in Rojhilat (East Kurdistan). She had been sentenced to 16 months in prison. A previous request for release with an electronic ankle bracelet had been rejected due to interference from the Sine Intelligence Directorate.
Journalist Gorji had initially been sentenced by Branch 1 of the Sine Revolutionary Court to 21 years in prison and exile to Hamedan. However, Branch 4 of the Sine Court of Appeal reduced this sentence to 26 months. Under legal provisions, her sentence was consolidated and finalized as 16 months in prison.
Gorji has been arrested multiple times in previous years and subjected to judicial proceedings.
