The Dicle Fırat Journalists’ Association (DFG) paid tribute to “free media martyr” Seyit Evran, a revolutionary journalist who passed away on 22 September 2023, at a hospital in Northern and Eastern Syria where he was receiving treatment.
In a message shared on its X account, the DFG wrote: “Seyit Evran dedicated his life to the relentless struggle of the Kurdish people.”
The message continued: “Across all four parts of Kurdistan, he documented events with his pen and his camera. Seyit Evran never abandoned the battlefields despite all the difficulties. Starting this sacred journey in the 1990s alongside Gurbetelli Ersöz, he carried it on in Bakur, Başûr, Rojhilat, and finally in Rojava.
Through the lens of the Free Press, he conveyed to the world the realities of war, the experiences of the peoples of Kurdistan, their struggle, and their resistance. With his energy, passion, and faith, Seyit Evran became part of the caravan of ‘Free Media Martyrs’ in this sacred struggle. The memory and legacy of the dervish of the Free Press will live on in the great struggle of the Kurdish people.”
