DBP and DEM Party commemorate Musa Anter, vowing to carry on his struggle

On the 33rd anniversary of the assassination of Kurdish intellectual, journalist, and author Musa Anter—known as Apê Musa—the DEM Party and DBP honored his legacy and emphasized their commitment to carrying on his fighting spirit.

DBP: Musa Anter became the voice of the Kurdish people

In a written statement, the DBP (Democratic Regions Party) emphasized that Musa Anter was not only a respected intellectual and journalist, but was also considered one of the pioneers of the free Kurdish press. “With his powerful pen and truthful words, he became the voice of the Kurdish people,” the statement said. “In addition, he contributed to the preservation of Kurdish identity by founding cultural and linguistic institutions, wrote about the situation of the Kurds in numerous publications, and was also politically active.”

Anter was shot dead on September 20, 1992, in Amed (tr. Diyarbakır) by assassins from the Turkish military police secret service JITEM. The DBP described him as a figure who, in the 1990s, “spoke the truth unwaveringly amidst policies of destruction, denial, and assimilation.” “They wanted to silence his voice, but his legacy lives on in the free Kurdish press,” the party said.

The DBP reaffirmed its determination to “continue to make the truth heard in all areas” and commemorated Anter and all others “who lost their lives on the path of truth” with “respect, love, and gratitude.”

DEM Party: Apê Musa is a beacon

The DEM Party also commemorated Musa Anter with a message, honoring him as “a sage of the free press and a voice of truth.” The statement reads: “Apê Musa is a beacon who illuminated the path of brotherhood, peace, and freedom for all peoples with his pen. When thousands of media professionals work today under the motto ‘The truth will not remain in the dark,’ it is the legacy of Apê Musa and his companions. We will continue our struggle with determination, following the path paved by truth seekers, walking the road of freedom and democracy, and nurturing the fighting spirit of Apê Musa.”
