Hunera Mizgîn paid tribute to artist Merziye Rezazî on the 20th anniversary of her death. In a statement, Hunera Mizgîn recalled that “artist Merziye Rezazî passed away on 18 September 2005. She dedicated her life to the women’s revolution, the freedom struggle of Kurdistan, and to art.”
Hunera Mizgîn said they drew “inspiration and examples from her life. Merziye Rezazî became a teacher for children. She educated Kurdish children in their culture against assimilation. With her songs, she became the voice of the revolution. When necessary, she became a revolutionary and went to the mountains of Kurdistan. At times, she was a women’s rights activist. Village, city, mountain, valley, cave, or the streets of Europe. It made no difference. She was a struggler in every arena, walking in line with her cause and her dreams.”
Hunera Mizgîn emphasized that Merziye Rezazî’s dreams did not go to waste: “Today, in Rojava, Rojhilat, Şengal, and the Medya Defense Zones, revolutionary women are raising the flag of the struggle for women’s freedom. Likewise, in the prisons of Iran and Turkey, women resist against occupation and oppression. Across the country, Kurdish women are also leading in art. Yes, it has been 20 years since we bid farewell to this fighter for women’s rights. We commemorate the immortal artist Merziye Rezazî with respect, and we say: We are walking in your footsteps, and we will continue to do so.”
