The Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) reported that the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence office in Sanandaj, Kurdistan Province, summoned and interrogated the mother of slain protester Ramin Fatehi on the third anniversary of Jina Amini’s death in custody.
On 16 September, coinciding with the anniversary, 71-year-old Nahiyeh Rahimi was questioned for several hours after responding to a telephone summons the previous day.
KHRN sources said Rahimi, who suffers from heart disease, was pressured and threatened over her visits to the graves of her son and other protesters of the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” (Women, Life, Freedom) uprising, as well as the activities of her family members abroad.
This development follows the recent summons, interrogation, and threats directed at Ramin’s brother, Wrya Fatehi, by the same security office.
Ramin, Wrya, and their sister Rada were arrested in Sanandaj on 13 and 14 October 2022 during the anti-government Women, Life, Freedom uprising.
On 21 October, a week later, intelligence officials informed the Fatehi family that Ramin had “committed suicide” in custody. The family rejects this claim, maintaining that he died as a result of torture.
Security forces buried his body at night in the Behesht-e Mohammadi cemetery without the family’s presence.
Rada and Wrya were later released on 3 November 2022 after 21 days in detention, on bail of 20 billion rials (nearly 20,000 USD).
