The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into Bayrampaşa Municipality on charges of “corruption,” “extortion,” “giving and receiving bribes,” and “rigging tenders.” As part of the probe, 46 people were taken into custody on 13 September.
39 people, including Bayrampaşa mayor Hasan Mutlu, from the CHP, were referred to the Criminal Court of Peace with a request for arrest, while 6 others were referred with a request for judicial control.
A total of 20 people, including Hasan Mutlu, were arrested. Sixteen were released under judicial control, while questioning continues for nine others.
