On the occasion of the third anniversary of the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” (Woman, Life, Freedom) revolution in Iran, the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) released a statement honouring the memory of those who lost their lives in the uprising and reaffirmed its commitment to continuing the democratic struggle.
The statement strongly condemned the wave of arrests and executions carried out by the Islamic Republic, describing women as the main vanguard of the revolution and calling the movement a point of no return in Iran’s democratic transformation.
With the renewed slogan “Once Again: Jin, Jiyan, Azadî”, the PJAK invited people—especially women, young people, and various social groups, both inside and outside the country—to engage actively in all spheres of life in order to expand the fight for freedom and democracy.
The PJAK statement on the third anniversary of “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” revolution reads as follows:
“The third anniversary of the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ revolution has arrived. This significant revolution began in Kurdistan and spread throughout Iran, igniting a wave of freedom and democracy whose echoes have been heard around the world. On this occasion, the Kurdistan Free Life Party (PJAK) honours the memory of all the martyrs who sacrificed their lives in the struggle. The spirit of freedom and democracy born from this revolution continues to spread throughout Iran, moving step by step closer to victory. We hope that, through continued struggle, the release of all political prisoners will also be achieved.
The anniversary of the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ revolution on 16 September each year has become a symbol of women’s freedom and the liberation of oppressed societies. Its rich cultural, intellectual and social achievements continue to nourish the people’s revolution. What began as an idea and a slogan has taken on a global dimension, and its influence is evident among freedom-seekers and advocates of democratic civilisation worldwide.
This revolution embodies the unyielding will of Iran’s ethnic groups, who are determined to fight oppression and achieve full freedom. The global struggle against patriarchy and the corrupt capitalist system, grounded in the philosophy of ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’, has found new strength and dynamism. Without a doubt, one day it will shine across the world.
The most genuine, accurate and beautiful aspect of the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ revolution is that women have led the way, opening a new chapter in Iranian history that is connected to global struggles for freedom, both philosophically and socially. This revolution has elevated the status of women in Iran and around the world. Aware and determined, women in Iran rose up against the misogynistic system of the Islamic Republic. By challenging sexism and gender inequality, they shook the ideological foundations of this patriarchal dictatorship. Through their revolutionary actions, women have implemented the paradigm of a ‘democratic and ecological society based on women’s freedom’, sparking a gradual renaissance across Iran that has also influenced the global stage. This is the most valuable revolutionary phenomenon of the 21st century, propelling the Middle East into an era of unstoppable change with Iran at its heart.
Iran has now reached a point of no return in its democratic transformation thanks to the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” revolution. This process will continue until liberation from oppression is achieved, after which the future will be shaped by the people themselves, rather than by external powers. The unparalleled nature of the revolution undoubtedly rests not on war, but on the realisation of ‘peace and democracy’. Women and international freedom-seekers are at the forefront of this global process. While all Iranian people share the demand for liberation from dictatorship, war cannot be the only way out of the devastating crises Iran faces. In this context, the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ revolution has stripped a regime that refuses peace, democracy and freedom of political and ideological legitimacy. This process has now become unstoppable, and society has undergone a transformation that has doubled hopes of victory. It is crucial to protect this revolution from the threats posed by those seeking power, opportunists, and diversionary tactics. The only path forward is unity among all societies and peoples. The choice between the opposing approaches of ‘war or democratisation’ depends on communities coming together in favour of democracy.
While congratulating the third anniversary of the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadî” revolution and honouring the memory of all its martyrs, the Kurdistan Free Life Party heralds a free and bright future through united struggle. We strongly condemn the Islamic Republic of Iran’s continued widespread arrests and intensified executions. At a time when the Iranian state is embroiled in ever-growing conflicts with its rivals—dangers that weigh heavily on the people—society has no choice but to confront these threats by actively participating in the various layers and arenas of the ‘Woman, Life, Freedom’ revolution. On this occasion, we call on everyone—especially women, young people, intellectuals, teachers, workers, students, nurses, pupils, professional guilds, civil society organisations, human rights organisations, environmental organisations, writers, and artists—both inside and outside Iran, to join us on the third anniversary of the revolution with the slogan “Once again: Jin, Jiyan, Azadî,” to turn every sphere of life into a field of struggle and expel the state from society. On this anniversary, we particularly call on the Kurdish people and the wider public to gather on 16 September at the resting places of the martyrs of the ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî’ revolution in the cities where they fell.”
