Parliament Speaker Numan Kurtulmuş delivered the opening speech at the 8th meeting of the National Solidarity, Brotherhood, and Democracy Commission established in Parliament as part of the ongoing process seeking a solution to the Kurdish question.
Kurtulmuş said that the commission had been working diligently and that they had held important discussions.
“So far, our friends representing different segments of society have spoken here either individually or on behalf of the civil society organizations they represent,” said Kurtulmuş, continuing:
“While everyone expressed their own views, everyone shared the common desire for brotherhood, peace, tranquility, well-being, and a Turkey where we can all live in security. Therefore, it is the primary duty of our commission to finalize these efforts as soon as possible and reach a final conclusion. These talks to record the views of civil society organizations are certainly not limited to simply hosting them here. Not all the views expressed by each of our friends will be included in our final report, yet they will greatly contribute to the formation of our final reports. However, more importantly, each of our friends who spoke here has contributed greatly to the formation of social consensus and the development of social consent in Turkey. They will continue to do so in the future. I hope that in the shortest possible time, we will create an environment not only in Turkey where weapons are silenced, but throughout the entire region, where brotherhood prevails, and where ethnic, sectarian, and political differences between peoples are not a cause for conflict, but rather an opportunity for integration and unity.”
