The ‘Jina Amini Commemoration and Women’s Social Gathering’ will take place on Sunday, 14 September 1at 2:00 PM at the Kurdish Community Centre in Haringey, London.
Organized by the Jiyan Women’s Assembly, the event will pay tribute to Jina Amini and all women who have been murdered, while also creating a space for women to come together, share experiences, build solidarity, and create collectively.
Speakers at the event will include feminist author and founder of Women for Refugee Women Natasha Walter, One Law for All spokesperson Maryam Namazie, PJAK Parliamentary Committee member Mehrî Rezaî, Noura Sabri from the Iraqi Women’s League–UK, Tamil women’s rights defender Dr. Shirona Jude-Manorajh, Afghan women’s rights activist and founder of the Dewa Trust Foundation Dewa Khan, and Parsi-Zoroastrian artist Freny Pavri.
The artistic program will feature award-winning percussionist and founder of the Zagros Ensemble Sara Fotros, internationally acclaimed Ukrainian bandura artist EKA, and Kurdish singer Suna Alan, who has performed on stages including the Royal Albert Hall and TEDx.
In its statement, the Jiyan Women’s Assembly said: “We move forward with the spirit of ‘Jin, Jiyan, Azadî – Woman, Life, Freedom.’ This gathering is not only a commemoration but also a day to celebrate women’s resistance and the power of being together.”
The event is free and open to all.
