Vigil in front of CHP Provincial Headquarters under police blockade continues

After the cancellation of the CHP Istanbul 38th Ordinary Provincial Congress, the court removed the current administration and appointed a trustee. Gürsel Tekin, who was appointed to head the trustee board, is expected to go to the provincial headquarters today at noon.

This development has caused a major crisis and backlash within the party. Following Tekin’s announcement, the CHP Youth Branch called on party members to protect the Istanbul Provincial Headquarters. CHP Chair Özgür Özel also expressed support with a message urging members to “protect the family home.”

The Istanbul Governor’s Office has declared a three-day ban on demonstrations and marches in six districts. During the night, riot police surrounded the provincial building with barriers. Police did not allow many people, including members of parliament, to enter. Nevertheless, some party members managed to pass the barricades and reach the building.

By morning, new barriers had been placed around the building. Around 60 MPs also joined the vigil inside.

Despite the rain, CHP members continued waiting in front of the building throughout the night and into the morning.
